Black Pride Media

Our Story

Black Pride Media exists in a country and continent full of hopes and possibilities. A colorful continent where even its nature narrates its stories. Telling stories in vernacular languages has always been part of African communities. The heart of Black Pride Media lies in telling stories in vernacular languages because we believe that stories orientate and define us, they define our culture, our values, our morals and most importantly language transcend history. Our work is diverse and broad as the continent itself, with strong vernacular content and a touch of history and modern variations. We are dedicated to nurturing young talent focusing on women and the disabled. For us future is Africa, our vision is to identify, create and co-production of timeless narratives that will offer a better perspective bringing African stories to the world.

Black Pride Media PTY LTD is lead by Sma Mbatha Mathibeli who is not a stranger to our TV screen as she has graced us with her acting talent since 2003. Sma’s love for story telling and content creation has played a pivotal role in a number of radio stations such as Gagasi FM where she was an executive content producer for more than 3 years. In 2011 while working as a content producer at SABC uKhozi FM, the biggest radio station, in Africa she was recognized and awarded as a future leader in the radio industry. Her in-depth understanding and knowledge of the radio business scooped her 3 awards (Best Breakfast Show 2012/2013 and Best Music Show 2013) in the MTN Radio awards.  In 2012 Black Pride Media was founded, having observed several industries showing trends of a growing female workforce, the film sector remains strongly male-dominated which continues to paint a stereotypical picture that an interest in the filmmaking and Film business is unfeminine. Sma through Black Pride Media seeks to contribute positively to challenging the status quo by empowering, inspiring and advancing women of diverse backgrounds to influential positions in the film industry.

Six years later, with 3 Million listenerships on the breakfast show at uKhozi FM, Sma Mbatha Mathibeli resigned to fully invest her time in building both her business entities – Unique Communications (Creative Agency and Black Pride Media (Film and Production Company). Sma Mbatha Mathibeli’s entrepreneurial journey has been nothing but riding on a hungry lion’s back, with all the bumps and humps her courage and determination have earned her a great spot/sit at the table with known brands as clients.

Normally, the conception of the project starts with the client. This is where the dream begins as well as the research for the right location and the specifications/standards that should be followed we then take action and build the idea into reality and make the best out of it so that you can be satisfied.
